Authorisation – the Saturn System
The use of electronic cards as an access key is widely known and applied. Cards have proved being useful as an additional safety measure for a computer in case when standard safety measures are not sufficient. To operate this kind of safety measures the SATURN software “stand-alone” version is used. This software safeguards a PC quickly and efficiently against an unauthorised access.
A safeguarded computer is provided with an electronic card reader connected to it via an USB or RS232C port. A user authorised for access to a computer has an electronic card, which prior to starting work, must be inserted into a reader. Access to a computer is granted only upon entering a right PIN code saved on a card. At working a card must stay all the time in a reader. When an operator wants to leave his workstation for a while it is not a problem – taking a card out of a reader blocks the computer and its screen goes out. Upon reinserting a card in a reader and entering the right PIN a computer resumes its operation from the moment it was turned off without having to restart it and an application anew.
1. Logging on with a card. Generally a user logs on to Windows entering only a PIN code after having before inserted his card in a card reader. A PIN code is entered with the following “formatka”. Upon entering and accepting – OK – a PIN code user has access to data on a computer. Should a false PIN code be entered three times a card will be blocked and access to a computer denied.
In case a user cannot log on using his card he can log on using the standard log-on window. This option is possible only when it is highlighted under configuration parameters.
In case system problems occur or hardware fails you can turn out with logging to the SATURN programme control. Then you log on in a standard way using GINA Windows. 2008-03-28
